Tuition

Cyprus's public universities charge no tuition for first-cycle (Bachelor's) programmes to Cypriot and other EU/EEA students - the government instead pays the institution a per-student amount (around EUR 3,417/year at Cyprus University of Technology) - except at the distance-learning Open University of Cyprus, which always charges fees. Non-EU/international students pay a fixed EUR 6,834/year for first-cycle programmes at public universities. Second-cycle (Master's) programmes are fee-paying for everyone: EUR 4,100-10,250/year for EU/EEA students and EUR 5,125-10,250/year for non-EU/international students, depending on the field of study; some self-funded specialised postgraduate programmes can cost more. Private universities set their own, often higher, fees for all students regardless of nationality. ^{[1] [2]}

Visa

A national (type D) entry visa or entry permit obtained before travel, informally known as the 'blue slip', followed after arrival by a Temporary Residence Permit for students from the Civil Registry and Migration Department. Valid for up to one year and renewable annually for the duration of the study programme. — 20 hours/week. ^{[3] [4] [5]}

Applications

Cyprus has no central national application portal: applications are submitted directly to each university's own admissions office, and each institution sets its own deadlines per programme and intake. Because non-EU/international students additionally need time for the entry-visa and residence-permit process after being accepted, applying well ahead of the intended start date is strongly recommended. Language

Greek, Turkish. Greek and Turkish are Cyprus's official languages. At the University of Cyprus, postgraduate programmes are taught in Greek and/or English and/or another international language, and its programme catalogue lists many English-taught master's and PhD programmes. The Cyprus University of Technology and the University of Nicosia require proof of English proficiency (for example IELTS or TOEFL) for admission to English-taught programmes. ^{[7] [8] [9] [10] [11]}

Health insurance

Non-EU/international students must hold health insurance before their residence permit can be granted; the policy must cover inpatient and outpatient medical care and repatriation of remains, and this cover must be maintained for as long as the residence permit is held. EU/EEA students can instead rely on a European Health Insurance Card or registration with Cyprus's General Healthcare System (GHS/GESY) plus repatriation cover. Cyprus's GHS/GESY itself is generally not open to non-EU students unless their residence status changes (for example through employment). Scholarships

• Cyprus State Scholarship Foundation (IKYK) — National scholarship scheme funded by the Republic of Cyprus, awarding grants of up to EUR 3,000/year for first-cycle (Bachelor's) and up to EUR 4,000/year for second-cycle (Master's) studies, based on academic merit and/or socio-economic criteria. Cypriot and EU students are the main beneficiaries; a limited number of places are also open to third-country students, subject to the rules of each annual call. ^{[18] [19]}
• Cyprus University of Technology - Scholarships for Undergraduate Students from Africa — Fully funded undergraduate scholarship at the public Cyprus University of Technology for students from Africa. It covers tuition in full plus a living allowance of about EUR 300/month, dormitory accommodation, airfare, and the mandatory entry-permit, medical-examination and insurance costs, for the standard duration of the degree (preceded by a preparatory year of Greek-language study). ^[20]
